Slack can connect with a multitude of apps such as: On of its biggest benefits is its ability to integrate with other tools. Some of Slack’s most popular features include: This innovative communication platform brings teams together in a central location. In recent years, Slack quickly rose up the ranks as one of the most popular collaboration and team management apps. The need for tools like this was exacerbated by recent increases in remote work around the world. These two communication apps step in to increase the level of connection a step above email. Sometimes emails are just a little too long and formal for certain tasks. “The winner is anyone’s guess,” according to David Yoffie, a professor at Harvard Business School.Īs technology evolves, there is an increasing need for a real-time collaboration app between team members. The competition between MS Teams vs Slack is rising intensely as they both fight to conquer the market share. Rumor has it that Microsoft was planning to purchase Slack, but that was shut down by Bill Gates. It merges chat, video calls, and file-sharing platforms seamlessly. In direct competition with Slack, Microsoft Teams came out in 2017 as an all-in-one platform. This helps teams chat with each other in real-time and is destined to be an “email killer.” Today they have over 10 million daily users and were purchased by Salesforce. Slack is most known for its simple, chat-based interface. Slack made a public launch of its software in 2013. ![]() Slack and MS Teams are two of the world’s most popular team communication apps. MS Teams integrates fluidly into Microsoft 365 with email, docs, and more. I assume it is somewhat better on windows machines, but I gotta say the mac client is not promising.TL DR: Slack is easier to use and has more popular features. So overall teams fails at delivering messages and silently fails completely which is a pretty fundamental problem for me. As far as I can tell when this happens I am properly logged in. I'm not sure if this is more auth issues or if it is unrelated. I suspect if it is an issue with our config it is obscure enough it is hard to even tell what the problem is.Īlso even when it is logged in half the time it fails to alert me anywhere that I have a new teams message (iphone and mac desktop client). So this could be a configuration issue at my company, but despite significant poking no one in IT has fixed it. ![]() I suspect the auth failures have something to do with the authentication setup at my company which lets you not use 2 factor when on local network or VPN, but does require it when not on VPN. Then I plug in the password again and sometimes it works, but usually I have to restart it completely to log back in. WTF did you just have me enter my password into a window that cannot be used? I go to sign in with the window it helpfully hides behind all other windows and it says 'sign in expired'. It randomly logs me out and doesn't mention it. So, basically: How do other messaging apps compare to Slack? What do they do better? What features are game-changers for them/you? I hear Teams being thrown around a lot these days. For personal use I'm on Signal and Discord, so I'm not terribly aware of other business platforms. I know it stole threading and auto-vacation features from Twist years ago, to its benefit (while taking 6 years to push a fucking dark mode for whatever reason). We use and write those. Not really clear on how we're going to integrate more closely than that.īut aside from that, it spurred discussion of what else Slack could do, what other messaging apps can do. The announcer flat out admitted that we're aware this is just a tactic to create "stickiness" with their platform which lead to a collective facepalm on the one hand and confusion as to what this will actually do for us on the other. So our company just announced that we're bringing in Slack devs to better integrate with their app.
